Does ear wax removal hurt?

Microsuction and warm water irrigation are both generally painless. You may feel a sensation of pressure or hear some noise during treatment, but most patients find it very comfortable. George will always check in with you and stop if you feel any discomfort.

How long does an appointment take?

Most appointments take between 20 and 40 minutes including the initial ear check. If there's a significant build-up in both ears it may take a little longer. George takes the time to do the job properly.

Do I need to use ear drops before my appointment?

For best results, use Earol or a similar olive oil spray twice a day for 2–5 days before your appointment to soften the wax. This isn't always essential, but it does make removal quicker and more comfortable. George will advise when you book.

What if no wax removal is needed?

Free ear wax checks are available when booked as a check. If you book a full appointment and no wax is found, a £25 consultation fee may apply where assessment and advice are provided.

Is ear wax removal available on the NHS?

NHS ear wax removal has been largely withdrawn from many GP surgeries in recent years. Looe Ear Care offers a fast, affordable private alternative with short waiting times and flexible appointments seven days a week.

What payment methods do you accept?

Payment is taken at the time of your appointment. George accepts cash and most major debit and credit cards.

Is George fully qualified and insured?

Yes. George is fully qualified and insured, certified in the safe practice of microsuction and warm water irrigation, following BSA and NICE guidelines through UK Microsuction training. He is DBS-checked and a registered member of the Association of Healthcare Trainers (AoHT). He is also certified in First Aid (BLS) and committed to Continual Professional Development (CPD).

Do I need an ear health check before booking an ear wax removal treatment?

No, you can book an ear wax removal treatment directly. If you are unsure whether you have wax, you can book an ear health check for £25. If wax removal is needed, this £25 will be deducted from the full treatment cost, so you will only pay £55 in total.

About George Mustoe

My Story

I have over five years of experience in a professional role since graduating as a Civil Engineer. However, my deep fascination with the complexity of the human body led me to explore a career in healthcare.

My journey into ear wax removal began in New Zealand, where I spent several months shadowing a family clinic in Auckland, developing a strong understanding of ear anatomy and safe wax removal techniques. Inspired by this experience, I returned to the UK in May 2024 and completed specialist training with Microsuction UK.

Since then, I have transitioned into a full-time role treating hundreds of patients, collaborating with local pharmacists, GP surgeries, and other healthcare professionals. I have continued to enhance my expertise through further training with TJ Audiology, specialising in ear impressions and moulds.

I am committed to providing exceptional ear care without the long wait times, and always with your convenience in mind. I have seen first-hand how a build-up of wax can leave people feeling isolated and disconnected, that's why I take great pride in offering gentle, professional care to restore your hearing and confidence.
