AquaPlugs with a sound filter £95 - requires impressions
With an acoustic filter allowing you to hear, whilst keeping water out, our AquaPlugs+ are the most comfortable and secure ear protection on the market.
About AquaPlugs
Aquaplugs are our premium custom ear protection, designed for surfers, swimmers, and anyone regularly exposed to cold water conditions. Developed for real-world use, these custom-made earplugs help safeguard your ears while allowing you to stay aware of your surroundings in the water.
Unlike standard earplugs, Aquaplugs incorporate a specialised acoustic filter. This allows sound to pass through naturally, so you can still hear waves, voices, and activity around you. At the same time, the design helps prevent cold water and wind from entering the ear canal, keeping you comfortable and protected throughout your session.
Regular exposure to cold water (and cold wind) can increase the risk of Surfer’s ear, a condition that may impact hearing over time. Aquaplugs are designed to help reduce this risk, without blocking out important environmental sound.
Custom Fit for Comfort & Security
Each pair of Aquaplugs is made from precise impressions of your ears, creating a secure and reliable fit. This tailored design ensures they stay in place, even during active use, and provides a level of comfort that generic earplugs often can’t match.
Aquaplugs are available in a range of colours to suit your preference. Every pair includes a protective storage case, with the option to add a detachable cord to help prevent loss between uses.

Questions?
We have outlined some answers to some common quesitons below:
How do I order?
Please submit a form on this page and then book an impression appointment at a time that suits you. The cost for your impressions is £35. This includes a full ear health check and video otoscopy. You can order your ear plugs at the appointment.
What is the difference between 'Aquaplugs' and off the shelf ear plugs?
Aqua Plugs are custom earplugs made from a mould of your ear and refined with 3D scanning for an exact fit. Because every ear is different, standard earplugs rarely provide the same comfort or seal.
Will my custom ear plugs stay in?
Our custom earplugs fit snugly, and many surfers use them without a cord. Still, they may come loose during strong impacts. A detachable cord is available, and some users keep it until they’re comfortable going without.
The cord is especially popular with RNLI crews and coaches, who often wear the plugs around their neck when out of the water.
Are they comfortable?
Aqua Plugs are made from ultra-soft, clinical-grade silicone, the same material used in premium hearing aids designed for all day wear.
If you feel any discomfort, contact us right away. Within 30 days of receiving them, if we can’t fix the issue, we’ll provide a full refund.
Can I still hear when wearing them?
Testing shows the plugs reduce sound by only about 3 dB, allowing you to hear clearly and easily hold conversations while wearing them.
Do you guarantee a water tight seal?
Because every ear is shaped differently, a fully watertight seal can’t always be guaranteed, although we always aim for the best possible fit.
We carefully craft each plug from impression to production to maximise comfort and seal. If you’re unhappy with the fit, contact us within 30 days, we can often improve the seal by adding a thin lacquer coating to make them more secure.
What if I lose my plugs?
For an additional £10, we store your 3D impressions for two years, so you can reorder replacements whenever you need them at a reduced price. Unlike standard earplugs, you can also order a single plug instead of a pair.
How long will they last?
Aqua Plugs are designed to last up to 10 years, but over time your ears may change shape and the fit can loosen—this is usually the sign it’s time for new impressions.
The filters are replaceable too. If they get damaged or sound quality drops, simply swap them out to keep your plugs working at their best.
Please get in touch via email or phone to order a replacement.
What is an impression?
An impression is a mould of your ear. A small foam block is first placed in the ear canal for protection, then soft material is gently applied to shape the canal and outer ear. It sets in about five minutes and is safe and comfortable.
Are they suitable for children?
Protecting both children’s and adults’ ears is important. Because children are still growing, they will likely need new earplugs every couple of years until their ears fully develop.
What if they don't fit well?
If your plugs don’t fit properly, please let us know within 30 days and we’ll make adjustments free of charge. After this period, adjustments may be subject to an additional cost.
How long do they take to make?
Our lead time for earplugs is around 2 to 3 weeks. If you need them sooner, we can offer priority postage at an additonal cost.
Will they effect my balance?
The filter helps reduce the occlusion effect, which can otherwise affect the vestibular system. Unlike solid earplugs, this design should not cause balance issues.
What if my ears are blocked with ear wax?
We recommend informing us if you are prone to excess or impacted ear wax prior to booking. If wax is present at your appointment and prevents impressions from being taken, we can remove it on the day for a reduced fee of £35 (standard charge £50).
What is surfers ear?
Surfer’s ear (exostosis) is a condition where bony growths develop inside the ear canal. It’s usually caused by repeated exposure to cold water and wind over the course of years, and can occur in the UK waters all year round, as water flows in and out of the ear canal.
Aqua Plugs can stop the onset and progression of surfers ear by stopping the flushing of water in your ear canal. In the colder months when its is windy, we suggest wearing a hat to cover your ears.
If you would like your ears checked then get in touch and we can arrange a 'Free Ear Wax Check' for your peace of mind.
What is swimmers ear?
Extended exposure to salt and chlorinated water can irritate the ear canal, making it more prone to inflammation and sensitivity. Aqua Plugs create significantly reduce the risk of bacterial infection, including otitis externa by stopping water entry into the ear canal.
